LTE trials start with 100mbps – Another Nail on WIMAX’s Coffin?

3GPP
Long Term Evolution (“LTE”) trials jump start with a whopping speeds exceeding 100 Mbps!

The joint testing activities led by an impressive list: Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, France Telecom/Orange, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel, T-Mobile and Vodafone. The long list of telecom giants indicate that Intel’s WiMAX gambit has taken seriously and LTE is the response.

As an insider, I see that the things are changing very fast on LTE side, huge investments are flowing in, 3G operators are hugely enthusiastic, since LTE designed to minimise the cost of upgrades for existing 3G networks.

It would be very interesting to watch next battle: WiMAX vs LTE. Stay Tuned!
